The Andersons Inc. on May 7 released first quarter financial results, reporting strong performance by the company’s Renewables segment on record high production and favorable ethanol margins.
The U.S. EPA, USDA and U.S. Food and Drug Administration on May 8 released a plan developed by the agencies to update, streamline and clarify their regulations and oversight mechanisms for products of biotechnology.
The USDA expanded its estimate for 2023-’24 corn use in ethanol to 5.45 billion bushels in its latest WASDE report, released May 10. The agency currently expects the volume of corn that goes to ethanol production to remain at that level for 2024-’25.

Alto Ingredients Inc. on May 6 reported that its Q1 earnings were negatively impacted by low crush margins and inclement weather, but that high-quality alcohol sales contributed to improved gross profit.

Novonesis, a company formed via the January 2023 merger of Novozymes and Denmark-based bioscience company Chr. Hansen, released first quarter financial results on May 3, reporting strong results for its Bioenergy segment.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration maintained its forecast for 2024 and 2025 fuel ethanol production in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released May 7. The agency also maintained its forecast for 2024 ethanol blending but increased its forecast for 2025 blending.
Aemetis Inc. released Q1 results on May 9, reporting increased revenues. Company officials confirmed the company’s biodiesel, RNG and ethanol segments performed well during the quarter and provided an update of proposed SAF and CCS projects.
U.S. fuel ethanol production fell by 2% the week ending May 3, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on May 8. Stocks of fuel ethanol fell more than 5% while exports were up 131%.
On its path to opening a facility designed to turn agriculture residue into a scalable biofuel business, SAFFiRE Renewables LLC plans to break ground on its pilot plant near Liberal, Kansas, in late 2024.
In April, the U.S. Grains Council led a group of Japanese journalists interested in biofuel production on a tour of several U.S. ethanol plants and organized meetings with supply chain leaders and policymakers.

POSITION PURPOSE Responsible for the repair and maintenance of the plant equipment to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES • Repair or replace plant equipment or systems on a scheduled or emergency basis. • Perform preventative maintenance activities as required. • Communicate directly with production and shipping/receiving department to coordinate maintenance and repair work. • Assist with diagnosing and trouble-shooting maintenance related issues. • Assist with new installations and other projects, as requested by supervisor. • Work with engineer and external contractors to plan and implement installation of new equipment or systems. • Participate and follow all safety, health, and environmental programs. • Know and understand city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to maintenance and plant equipment, and work in a manner to ensure that these regulations are met at all times. • Work in a safe manner at all times. • Participate in programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness. • Be available for overtime work on a scheduled or call-in basis as required. • Know and understand basic machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION The majority of time will be spent in the plant. All types of chemical industry equipment are used in the plant to include, but not limited to fermentation vessels, jet cookers, agitators, mixing and milling equipment, distillation columns, centrifuges and distributive control systems. May be exposed to loud noises, wet and humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, extreme hot and cold depending on weather conditions. Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 175 feet. Must be able to speak and listen clearly. Fine visual acuity to read for accuracy. Travel required or as needed.
