The Cartavio sugar company will begin exporting ethanol to the U.S. within two months. Other sugar refiners, such as San Jacinto and Laredo, are expected to follow suit shortly, says Mr. William Arteaga, general manager of APPAR (Asociacion Peruana de Productores de Azucar), who added that the sustained production of sugar in Peru in recent years has generated an excess of 100,000 million tons, some of which is being exported or used in the production of ethanol.
