UNICA: Domestic sales of hydrous ethanol set new monthly record

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced that domestic sales of hydrous ethanol by mills in the south-central region of Brazil record set a new record in October, reaching 2.11 billion liters (557.4 million gallons).

According to UNICA, mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 32.63 million tons of sugarcane during the second half of October. Since the beginning of the current season, which began April 1, mills in the region have processed 542.89 million tons of sugarcane, up 6.25 percent when compared to the same period of last year.

As of Nov. 1, 67 production units has closed the harvest, up from 52 production units that had closed at the same time last year. An additional 57 units are expected to close the harvest during the first half of November, up from 34 units last year.

Ethanol production for the second half of October reached 2.05 billion liters, up 45.35 percent when compared to last year, according to UNICA. Since the beginning of the current season, mills in the south-central region have produced 29.56 billion liters of ethanol, up 8.57 percent from last year. Production included 8.95 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol and 20.61 billion liters of hydrous ethanol. Corn ethanol accounted for 739.02 million liters of ethanol production so far this year, up 100.47 percent when compared to the same period of 2018.

Ethanol sales for the second half of October reached 1.11 billion liters, up 3.33 percent from last year. Anhydrous sales for the second half of reached 393.89 million liters domestically, up 2.75 percent.

Total ethanol sales for October reached 3.08 billion liters, including 2.86 billion liters sold domestically and 227.59 million liters destined for export. Domestic hydrous ethanol sales reached 2.11 billion liters, up 3.88 percent from October 2018. UNICA said October domestic hydrous ethanol sales set a new monthly record.

From April 1 through the end of October, total ethanol sales reached 20.22 billion liters, including 14.11 billion liters of hydrous ethanol and 6.11 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol. Of that total, 18.91 billion liters were sold domestically and 1.13 billion liters were destined for export.
