The U.S. EPA has released updated renewable identification number (RIN) data showing that more than 1.51 billion RINs were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in June, bringing total RIN generation for the first half of 2020 to 8.52 billion. During the same period of 2019, total RIN generation reached 9.64 billion.

More than 41.87 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in June, including 31.68 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 7.33 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 1.73 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 1.08 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, and 57,226 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

Total D3 RIN generation for the first half of 2020 reached 192.91 million. That volume includes 146.74 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 30.89 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 9.04 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, 5.12 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, and 1.05 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs have been generated so far this year.

More than 9.45 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in June, including 4.61 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 2.28 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 1.97 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 480,861 generated for LPG by domestic producers, 104,131 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 8,314 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

Total D5 RIN generation for the first six months of this year reached 111.86 million. That volume includes 44.32 million generated for ethanol by importers, 35.67 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 16.81 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 11.64 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 1.81 million generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, 1.59 million generated for LPG by domestic producers, and 24,298 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

Approximately 1.07 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in June, including 1.06 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 8.19 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 1.03 million generated for ethanol by importers.

Total D6 RIN generation for the first half of 2020 reached 6.11 billion. That volume includes 6.02 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 90.54 million generated for renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 5.43 million generated for ethanol by importers.

More than 387.39 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in June, including 247.8 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 84.74 generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 28.92 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 25.12 million generated for biodiesel by importers, and 813,621 generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.

Total D4 RIN generation for the first six months of this year reached 2.1 billion. That volume includes 1.28 billion generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 409.66 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 263.02 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 146.79 million generated for biodiesel by importers, and 3.3 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.
