China corn demand may increase

China, the world's second-largest corn producer after the United States, is likely to become a net corn importer this year, according to Interfax News Service Ltd. The nation's growing appetite for grain will heighten pressure on world corn pricesalready at historic highslikely drawing off U.S. corn supplies and possibly pricing corn out of the market as an ethanol feedstock, said David Harman, Hong Kong-based global head for China commodities at Interfax.
