The Andersons, Marathon dedicate Greenville ethanol plant

The Andersons Inc. and Marathon Oil Corp. dedicated their jointly owned ethanol plant in Greenville, Ohio, on May 31 at an invitation-only event.

State and local officials, joined with officials from The Andersons and Marathon to dedicate the 110 MMgy plant, which has been operational since early February. The plant also produces 350,000 tons of distillers dried grains.

The Greenville, Ohio, plant was constructed by The Andersons Marathon Ethanol LLC, a joint venture between The Andersons Ethanol Investment LLC, a subsidiary of The Andersons Inc., and Marathon Renewable Fuels LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corp.

"Our partnership in the Greenville facility, the largest ethanol plant in Ohio, makes Marathon one of the first U.S. oil companies to initiate ethanol production operations," said Gary R. Heminger, executive vice president of Marathon Oil Corporation and president of the company's refining, marketing and transportation operations. "Marathon has been blending ethanol fuels for more than 15 years and is among the nation's largest blenders of ethanol. We also are a leader in quality testing of ethanol and a pioneer in creating the distribution infrastructure necessary to make ethanol available in the Midwest and Southeast."

"The dedication of this ethanol plant represents an additional 45 full and part-time jobs in the Darke County-area; an additional market for area corn growers; and a local supply of distillers dried grains for area animal farmers," said Neill McKinstray, vice president and general manager of the Ethanol Division for The Andersons. "We are grateful to Darke County, the city of Greenville and the Greenville Economic Development office for their support and commitment of this project."

The Andersons is a diversified company with interests in the grain, ethanol and plant nutrient sectors of U.S. agriculture, as well as in railcar leasing and repair, turf products production, and general merchandise retailing.
