AE Biofuels Inc., a California-based potential cellulosic ethanol producer, has appointed former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture John Block to its board of directors. Block served as agriculture secretary from 1981 to 1986. Since then he has held various executive positions in the food industry and is currently a senior legislative advisor for a food industry organization. Previously Block also served on the board of directors for John Deere & Co. and Hormel Foods Corp.

"AE Biofuels has a winning strategy and a strong management team," Block said. "The company's patent-pending cellulosic ethanol plant in Montana is producing ethanol from agricultural waste and its 50 MMgy biodiesel facility in India is supplying large customers a rapidly-growing local and global market."

In a recent U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing AE Biofuels announced that two other members of the board of directors have resigned. Laird Cagan and Suren Ajjarapu left the board to pursue other opportunities, according to the company. Ajjarapu also served as president of AE Biofuels. There are no plans to fill the remaining vacant position at this time.
