ICM Inc., Midwest Laboratories Inc. and Midland Scientific Inc. are sponsoring a conference dedicated to ethanol plant laboratory managers. The inaugural Fuel Ethanol Laboratory Manager Conference will be held Dec. 2-3 in Omaha, Neb. Organizers say it will provide managers with professional development and networking opportunities.

The event begins on Dec. 2 with a late afternoon tour of Midwest Laboratory. On Dec. 3, Kevin Smith will speak on "Distillary Laboratory: Functions, Responsibilities and Typical Analyses." Smith, a microbiologist, presently works as the whiskey technical resource specialist at Jack Daniel Distillery. He also has experience in the fuel ethanol industry. Jerry King will speak later that afternoon on "Ethanol Lab Test Methods, Compliance and Best Practices." King oversees the technical aspects of the alternative fuels area at Midwest Laboratories where he has worked since 1989.

The registration deadline is Nov. 14. For more information visit the conference Web site,
