Poet LLC is adding 5 MMgy of capacity to its 52 MMgy facility in Laddonia, Mo. Work on the $2 million expansion project, which includes installation of a sixth fermenter, has already begun, according to Poet Biorefining-Laddonia General Manager Robin Venn.

"The plant itself is running very efficiently," he said, noting that the expansion project should be complete by April 2009. "It's performing above and beyond expectations."

The additional capacity will allow the plant to purchase another $3 million worth of corn per year, Venn said.

According to Poet, the company is the leading ethanol producer in the U.S., currently operating 26 ethanol plants with a combined capacity of approximately 1.54 billion gallons.
