Provista to market Riverland Biofuels ethanol

Provista Renewable Fuels Marketing LLC announced it has entered into an agreement with Canton, Ill.-based ethanol producer Riverland Biofuels LLC to exclusively market the plant's ethanol.

Provista is a biofuel marketing company owned by CHS Inc. According to Ann Mann, director of energy advertising and communications for CHS, Provista currently markets 380 million gallons of ethanol, while additional gallons are under discussion through the company's development initiative. Provista has been marketing ethanol on a wholesale level for five years, Mann said. In addition to the marketing, logistic and transaction services provided by Provista, Mann said CHS will also provide Riverland Biofuels with grain origination and distillers grain marketing services.

Previously known as Central Illinois Energy Co-op Inc., ground was broken on the 37 MMgy Riverland Biofuels ethanol plant in 2003. Construction was stalled when Central Illinois Energy Co-op filed for bankruptcy in December 2007. The facility was sold in 2008 and its named was changed to Riverland Biofuels. According to Joe Werth, the plant's manager, construction was competed on the facility Oct. 1, 2008, and the first batch of ethanol was produced Oct. 10. Werth said certain modifications were made to the plant's original design to increase operational success.
