In a notice filed with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development on Nov. 20, Renew Energy LLC said it intends to sell its Jefferson, Wis.-based ethanol plant. According to EPM's plant list, the 130 MMgy facility originally began operations in mid-2007, before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2009.

According to the notice, which was signed by Renew Energy CEO Jeff White, it may become necessary to close the facility permanently in the unlikely event that a buyer cannot be found.

In the notice, White also states that one of two actions is expected to occur between Dec. 11, 2009 and Jan. 31, 2010. Either optionthe sale or closure of the plantwould affect approximately 70 plant employees.

In the event of a sale, Renew Energy said it anticipates that substantially all of the employees would be hired by the buyer with less than a six month break in employment.

A representative of Renew Energy could not be reached by EPM for further comment.
