NREL online tool layers industry information on map
By | November 15, 2010
The U.S. DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory has expanded its online mapping tool, BioEnergy Atlas. Two layers from the biofuels map are shown herethe dots show E85 stations and in the background the yellow indicates the density of flex-fuel vehicles, with heavier densities appearing in different colors around major metropolitan areas. Other layers can be added to the maps showing feedstocks such as sugarcane, stover, straw and woody biomass. Additional layers include methane sites, brownfield sites, biopower and biofuels plant locations, and more. The atlas provides an overview of the U.S., but users can also select a state to view more specific information. The USDA, DOE and U.S. EPA provided data for the atlas, which will be periodically updated.
