Poet targets dairy market with low-fat DDGS

Poet LLC is upping its stake in the dairy feed market with the introduction of Dakota Gold Low Fat dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS), which research is showing can be fed to dairy cattle at a higher inclusion rate than traditional DDGS.

Low-oil DDGS become increasingly available

Of the roughly 200 corn dry mills that produce ethanol, about 90 have oil extraction capabilities, and 105 plants will by this summer. On a production basis, about 40 percent of DDGS produced today is low-oil, and 58 percent will be soon.

Construction of five-acre algae farm begins at ethanol plant

BioProcess Algae and Green Plains Renewable Energy formally broke ground Feb. 1 on a five-acre algae production facility in southwest Iowa at the site of Green Plains' 65 MMgy ethanol plant near Shenandoah, and should be complete in the fall.

Exports of DDGS are expected to reach 7.72 million metric tons by the end 2011, down from the record 9.03 million metric tons exported in 2010, although up from the 2009 total, which was 5.65 million metric tons.
