An internal department of the U.S. EPA will research lifecycle impacts of the renewable fuel standard (RFS), to determine if the EPA complied with reporting requirements and updated the RFS lifecycle analysis information from recent biofuels studies.

Industry slams report that calls for RFS reforms

Growth Energy and the Renewable Fuels Association responded to a report that came out of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture Oct. 15, which called for reforming the RFS. The report was commissioned by a group with ties to Big Oil.

Poet Biorefining plant uses wood waste to power its facility

Poet Biorefining in Chancellor, S.D., is currently powering its plant with wood waste from Spencer, Iowa. The facility installed a solid fuel boiler in 2006 to offset the cost of fossil fuel and has natural gas as a back-up energy source.

EIA report summarizes Brazil’s energy sectors, ethanol production

EIA reports Brazil biofuel production in 2014 was 16.7 million tons of oil equivalent, a 5.5 percent increase from 2013. 2014 ethanol production grew 4 percent over the previous, setting a new record at 492,844 barrels per day.
