UNICA: Brazilian corn ethanol production continues to grow


UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has released data showing that Brazilian corn ethanol production has more than doubled over the past year and accounted for approximately two-thirds of the ethanol produced in late December.

Novozymes reports 2% increase in Q4 bioenergy sales


Novozymes released fourth quarter 2019 financial results on Jan. 23, reporting a 2 percent growth in bioenergy sales during three-month period. Bioenergy sales for the full year, however, were down 3 percent when compared to 2018.

The Department of Energy on Jan. 23 announced it will award up to $96 million for bioenergy research and development to reduce the price of drop-in biofuels, lower the cost of biopower, and enable high-value products from biomass or waste resources.

Peru’s ethanol consumption, production expected to increase


A report recently filed with the USDA FAS's Global Agricultural Information Network shows Peru was expected to produce and consume more ethanol in 2019 than it did in 2018. The country currently has a 7.8 percent ethanol mandate in place.

UK liquid biofuel use up in Q3, ethanol consumption down slightly


An estimated 696 million liters (183.86 million gallons) of liquid biofuels were consumed the by the U.K. transportation sector during the third quarter of 2019, up 18 percent from the same period of 2018.

Low-oil DDGS provides less energy, more protein in pig diets


Given greater oil-extraction efficiencies at corn ethanol plants, the resulting coproducts, DDGS, are lower in fat. That means less energy for pigs and other livestock consuming DDGS as part of their diet, according to reserachers.
